A seated Maiko (an apprentice geisha from Kyoto) is depicted from the side at an elevated angle. Her powdered face and neck contrast with her jet black hair and the circle of her spreading black kimono. Her obi has a pattern of wood grain and a three petal flower crest at the bottom. The artist has used the woodgrain with emphasized texture as a pattern in and of itself, both in the obi and in the background. Few 20th century artists could match him in making this difficult technique appear effortless.

Condition: Excellent impression and color. Excellent/very good condition. Very light fingernail scratches on area of the black obi that are only visible in certain light.
