Tableau of three sets of five kabuki actors who are popular in the Kabuki drama “Suiko-den”. The names are written on the scroll behind them. Each group contains four male characters surrounding a female character. Viewers of the period would recognize both the characters and the actors on sight.
On the right sheet: Ishikawa Goemon played by Nakamura Shikan; Tsukushino Gonroku played by Sawamura Tossho; Nezumi Kozo played by Nakamura Fukusuke; Onigami Omatsu played by Bando Mitsugoro, and Nippon Mudaemon by Sekijro.
