The famously white walls of Himeji Castle appear almost golden in the evening light of sunset. The sky is a glowing, lemony yellow, with a bright orange-pink pink near the horizon. Very few examples of this work have such bright coloration. Himeji Castle dates from 1333, and is considered the finest surviving example of Japanese castle archicture from the feudal period. It is the largest and most visited castle in Japan and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. With the “Jizuri” (self-printed) seal in blue at left margin. Titled and signed in pencil by the artist at lower margin.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. With a tiny bit of stray ink from the original printing process in the lower left corner.
