Tai shun (Shun) of Paragon of filial piety is depicted with an elephant. Taishun was the son of the blind old man, Ku Sow, and had to suffer from the overbearing father, evil disposition of his step-mother and half-brother. His parents sent him to the Li mountains to cultivate the land. This hard task was helped by an elephant, which plough the field for him.The Emperor Yao heard of his piety, and gave him one of his daughters as a wife. Tai shun succeeded him upon the throne.
