Maneuvers by Three Categories of French and English Soldiers (Furansu Igirisu sanhei ôchôren no zu). View of a proving ground in Yokohama. The foreign soldiers are lined up in their distinctive uniforms, apparently using live ammunition. This is an early impression of the second state, with a dark sky. The dark sky serves the composition well, however, as the explosion in the distance shows up with strong contrast as it is done in lead orange.
