“The moment of death of Takamori and his followers at Castle Mountain.” During a battle on a rainy night we see followers of Saigo Takamori surround him as he appears to stumble, pointing at the attacking government forces as he does. In 1877 the samurai Saigo Takamori led the Satsuma Rebellion against the central Meiji government. He was a revered figure in Japan, and the rebellion failed, causing the loss of about 20,000 rebels and 6,000 government forces.

Condition: Excellent impression and color; very good condition. Horizontal center fold that is difficult to see from the front.
