“Portraits of the Generations of the Tokugawa Clan” (Tokugawa ruidai zôken). Triptych with portraits of all the shoguns who ruled Japan during the Tokugawa era, 1603-1867. In the middle sheet with a white dog is the “Dog Shogun” Tsunayoshi, whose laws put dogs on a higher level than people. The yellow boxes next to each portrait contain specific biographical information.
