An actor playing a tattooed fireman. Firemen were considered heroic and were well respected in Yoshitoshi’s time. This is Yoshitoshi’s first series featuring this subject. It features an actor in the role of a fireman, the company’s standard behind the actor in lead white. They are posed against a bricklike red background. Works from this series are very scarce. LACMA has a nice group of them.
