Title: Fudô Myôô Coming Alive
The young Yüten Shônin is threatened at swordpoint by the fierce statue of Fudô Myôô, which has come alive to impart an important teaching. A female celestial being, probably the Bodhisattva Kannon, watches ethereally from the right. A mysterious symbol burns on the left, with one of Fudô’s attendants on guard in front of it. Yûten was a novice at Zôjôji temple in the 17th century, and he later became abbot of the temple.
