Amaku Hashiro has just emerged from his sleeping area, surprised by his enemies. He hurls a brazier in the air; we see a glowing stick of firewood trailing smoke as it descends. He was the leader of the shogunal forces in the Battle of Ueno in May of 1868; he was later captured after their defeat to the Imperial Army.
