Onoe Kikugoro V as Inga Kozo Rokunosuke 因果小僧六之助. He looks up towards the full moon, which seems to be the only witness to the crime he has just committed. He wipes blood from his hands, knife and towel, his face contorted into an evil pose. The story was about a larger-than life group of five thieves, and Inga Kozo Rokunosuke was the leader of the Five Men of Kumogiri. Yoshitoshi earlier designed a print of this same scene in 1866 in the series “28 Famous Murders”. According to a note in “beauty & violence”, the price of a single sheet was raised from two to two and one half sen while the set was being published. This series of actor portraits shows actors in theatrical roles compared with meteorological phenomena. Here the actor is compared with a full moon.

Condition: Excellent impression and color; very good condition. Untrimmed and unbacked. Repaired binding holes, left and very light creases.
