Hiroshi Yoshida 吉田博 : Kiso River 木曽川 (Sold)
Artist: Yoshida Hiroshi 吉田博 (1876-1950)
Title: Kiso River (Kisogawa) 木曽川
Date: 1927
Motorless wooden boats float in the shallows of the Kiso River, sunset creating an orange-pink mirror of water. We see several figures on the sandbar that must be securing the watercraft for the evening. The donjon of the Inuyama castle rises on a forested hill in the distance. This timeless scene shows no signs of concrete or motor–a breath of peaceful air from the past. From a collection that was purchased in Japan during the US Occupation in the 1940s; never framed. Early edition, with pristine, subtle colors that cannot be compared with works that have been framed and exposed to fading.
