Kura in Tomonoura. Peaceful pre-industrial scene of wooden watercraft in harbor at Tomonoura. At right we see a couple on a small fishing boat who seem to be sorting their catch. In the center are the white, fireproof storehouses known as kura. As always, Yoshida’s rendering of the colors can best be described as perfect. The many subtle colors and the way the boats are reflected in the water also reflects the mastery of the printmakers. This is an excellent example from a self-published edition whose printing was supervised by Yoshida himself. Tomonoura remains a picturesque fishing town in Hiroshima Prefecture that faces the Seto Inland Sea and is now part of the Setonaikai National Park.
