Artist: Yoshida Hiroshi
Title: Evening on the Chikugo River in Hida
Date: 1927

Magical evening view of dusk on the Chikugo River (Hida Chikugogawa no yûbe). Lights are turning on and a boat heads to shore. The trees seem to gently wave in the breeze, printed in a unique fashion that gives the boughs movement. The colors on this example present a variant that has deeper blues, brighter oranges and a more evocative feeling overall than the lighter variant in the MFA collection and shown in Abe.
