Utagawa School: Three koban shunga scenes of erotic activities (Sold)

  • Sold.

Artist: Utagawa School (Possibly Kunisada)
Title: Three koban shunga scenes
Date: Ca. 1840s

Three erotic scenes of amorous couples in various positions. In one scene we see cherry blossoms in the background, and in another we see a view of a river. The red undergarments of the women serve as contrast against their bare, white limbs. Snippets of conversation are most likely what are written along the edges, increasing the voyeuristic aspect of the prints. The works are beautifully printed, and the colors are very well preserved; even the fugitive purple color is extant. Sold as three together.

Condition: Excellent impressions, colors and conditions.
Dimensions: koban (each approx. 9 x 12.3 cm)
Signature: unsigned, as usual with shunga
