Utagawa School: Three koban shunga scenes, including a woman pouring tea
Artist: Utagawa School (Possibly Kunisada)
Title: Three koban shunga scenes
Date: Ca. 1840s
Three erotic scenes of amorous couples in various acts of congress. The most unusual scene shows two completely nude lovers, and the woman is pouring herself a cup of tea from her “seated” position. Snippets of conversation are most likely what are written at the edges of the designs, increasing the voyeuristic aspect of the prints. The third work is from a different series, and has an embossed tile pattern as a background. Sold as three together.
Condition: Excellent impressions, colors and conditions. The third is a very good impression.
Dimensions: koban (each approx. 9 x 12.3 cm)
Signature: unsigned, as usual with shunga
