Rakan Temple at Yabakei in Oita Prefecture in the Rain (Ame no Yabakei, Rakan-ji). Here we see a slice of the roof and the bell tower of Rokan-ji temple in the rain.  Hiratsuka was a leading figure in the sosaku hanga movement and almost all of his later works (after ca. 1955)  were done in black and white. He is one of the leading figures of the sosaku hanga movement, and even taught wood carving to Shiko Munakata. Between 1935 and 1944 Hiratsuka taught the first blockprinting course at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Although dated in pencil “1935”, it can be safely assumed that this work was done before WWII.
