Makurabashi. Evocative evening scene of various types of small watercraft on the Sumida River. Makura translates into “Pillow Bridge”, and we see it sloping softly in the distance. The long, narrow otanzaku  yoko-e format suits the long and narrow shapes of the boats perfectly. A rather scarce, pre-earthquake design and one of the artist's finest evening scenes. The blocks for this work were destroyed in the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake.
