Rain falls diagonally across this autumn view of a bridge and stone embankment. A steep slope climbs to the right. A single pedestrian crosses the bridge in the rain. The series Miyako meisho no uchi (Set of Famous Views of the Capital [Kyoto]) includes at least 30 designs. The original wrapper for this series had a slightly different title: Miyako meisho shashin kagami (A Mirror of Famous Views of the Capital [Kyoto]— Truthfully Copied). It followed soon after the publication in 1856-58 of Utagawa
