Sadanobu: Cherry Blossoms at Arashiyama (Sold)
Artist: Hasegawa Sadanobu
Title: Cherry Blossoms at Arashiyama
Series: Miyako meisho no uchi (Set of Famous Views of the Capital [Kyoto])
Date: 1858
Two boatmen pole their log rafts past the famous blooming cherry trees at Arashiyama. This work brings to mind the famous Hiroshige work of the same view. The series Miyako meisho no uchi (Set of Famous Views of the Capital [Kyoto]) includes at least 30 designs. The original wrapper for this series had a slightly different title: Miyako meisho shashin kagami (A Mirror of Famous Views of the Capital [Kyoto]— Truthfully Copied). It followed soon after the publication in 1856-58 of Utagawa Hiroshige's Meisho Edo hyakkei (One Hundred Famous Views of Edo). Packs a delightful visual punch despite its size.
