View of the Meiji Jingu Shrine during a rainy day. It is perhaps summer, as this is the time of famous downpours, and the streets are slick with rain. Several pedestrians hold yellow umbrellas, the color lively agains the green trees. There is a single car of the era that we glimpse driving on the street. With a limited edition number of 2/20.

Oda Kazuma studied lithography beginning in 1898, and a few years later he worked as a designer at the Koshiba lithography studio in Tokyo. At about that time he spent time with the European artist Emil Orlik, whose lithographic art inspired him. In 1918 Kazuma was a founding member of the Japan Creative Print Association (Nihon Sosaku-Hanga Kyoka) as its only lithographer. Kazuma also published a few woodblock prints with Watanabe, and created some self-published woodblocks, as here. Kazuma’s lithographs are included in many major American museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian, The MFA Boston and the Los Angeles County Museum of art, to name a few. Oda’s self-published sosaku hanga designs were almost always printed in small editions, as here.  Includes the original folder mount that has a title description pasted to the front.

Condition: Excellent impression and color. Paper has some inevitable toning from contact with the original folder. Dimensions: 24 x 32.6 cm
