Ôiso is famous in poetry and legend. Its depiction during rainfall alludes to the tears shed here by the famous courtesan Toragozen as part of the Soga monogatari in the 12th century. On May 28, 1191 her lover, Soga Jûrô fell at the battle of vengeance. Since then people say that on May 28 it always rains.
