Title: Nightly View of Hiki-fune at Ko-oome in To-kei
Date: ca 1920 (originally published 1876)

One of Kiyochika’s earliest and finest designs. Henry Smith II dates this edition to circa 1920, published with new blocks at the request of the collector Murakami Yutaka. We see a man and a woman towing passenger boats by hand along the Yotsugi-dori Canal on a moonlit night. The English text leads scholars to believe that these prints were initially intended for export.
