Majors Imada and Yasumitsu exchange salutes, calmly acknowledging a job done without even mussing their boots. The lower half of the picture shows three Chinese corpses sprawled on the ground, one of them still clenching his fists in death. Their fallen flag is nearly trampled by the Japanese Major’s mount. Both horses have steam issuing from their nostrils, and the horse facing us has something of an expression.
