Kiyochika: Exploding Ship near Port Arthur (Sold)

  • Sold.

Artist: Kobayashi Kiyochika
Title: Exploding Ship near Port Arthur
Date: 1904, January

“Picture of an Attack by a Destroyer Outside of Port Arthur.” or Ryojunkou kougai suiraitei shuugeki no zu, Kiyochika excelled at both atmosphere and explosions; here he has the chance to portray both. The untouched Japanese vessel steams away, the seamen raising their arms in victory at the nearby explosion of the Russian enemy ship. There are still munitions exploding in the sea nearby. For some reason this seems to be a rare design.
