Outbreak of the Fire as Seen from Hisamatsu-cho. Dramatic print of the second devastating fire to level the area in 1881. The first fire consumed Kiyochika’s own home near Ryogoku Bridge. This print is made of a sketch Kiyochika made firsthand of the conflagration. There are many variant color states of this work. This one features strong oxidation and more dramatic hues. The inscription to the right of the title reads “Great fire on night of February 11, 1881.”
