Kiyochika: The Sumida River at Night (Sumidagawa yoru)
Artist: Kobayashi Kiyochika
Title: The Sumida River at Night (Sumidagawa yoru)
Perfect view of a silhouetted couple walking along the banks of the Sumida River. A man in Japanese dress with a bowler holds a cane and a small lantern, with a woman (perhaps a maid from a nearby restaurant) guiding him back to the ferry landing. In the distance lies the entrance to the San’ya Canal with brightly lit restaurants providing beckoning lights. This image was used in the advertisement for the 2014 Smithsonian exhibition on Kiyochika; “Master of the Night”.
Condition: Very good impression, color and condition.
