Commander of Imperial Japanese Army the 11th Infantry Regiment, Major General Ôdera Yasuzumi (Dai jûichi ryôdan-chô Ôtera Yasuzumi kun) steps backwards towards a fallen cannon mount, binoculars in hand. At the battle of Weihaiwei naval base he fell during the battle. He was the highest ranking casualty on the Japanese side. Posthumously he was promoted to the 3rd court rank and his son received the title of Baron (danshaku) in 1895 as family ranking.
