From the series “One Hundred Views of Musashi”, a crab’s eye view from a boat on the Sumida River with Mt . Matsuchi in distance . A standing woman in a summer kimono is depicted so near that her upper body is completely cropped from the picture. This technique and its effect are familiar in Hiroshige’s prints. This series is something of a stylistic bridge between Hiroshige and shin hanga.
