Title: Night Attach on Yamaki Mansion
Date: 1854/1

The Night Attack on the Yamaki Mansion, When Yoritomo First Raised His Banner (Yoritomo hata-age, Yamaki no yakata youchi no zu). A disguised view of the assassination of Oda Nobunaga at Honnôji Temple. Nobonaga was a warlord who helped to unify Japan in the late 16th century, before being killed by his vassal Mitsuhide. As it was prohibited for artists to portray events from such a “recent” past, Kuniyoshi has wrapped the story in another, equally violent story.
