Nyogetsuni is the Buddhist name of the former nun who became the sorceress Takiyasha in the 1806 Santô Kyôden novel “The Loyalty of Utô Yasukata”. We see Takiyasha in the mountains, magical implements in both hands as well as a blazing branch in her mouth and a mirror around her neck. She is followed by her henchman Araimaru who carries the head of one of her victims attached to a branch. The famous Kuniyoshi triptych of a giant skeleton is also based on this story.
