We see the famous swordsman Tomijirô eyeing two snakes as they cross a river, which relates to a story of him observing many snakes swimming across a river at once. Behind him Kuniyoshi has placed Yamauba, the wild mountain woman and mother of the child superhero Kintarô. She has wild hair and wears a leafy cloak and seems to be directing a wild monkey, who is perhaps one of her child’s playmates.
