Jealous rivalry beneath flowering branches. At left is Iwai Kumesaburo III as Princess Tachibana and at right is Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Eboshiori Motome. In the center is Arashi Rikan III as Omiwa. From the play: Imoseyama onna teikin (An Example of Noble Womanhood). The spindle of white thread and the spindle of red thread held by the two actors at right play a part in the plot. The Princess and Omiwa are both fighting for the affection of Motome.
