Title: Beauty Triptych of Gathering Herbs
Date: 1840-45
Ukiyo nenjû gyôji kisaragi. Delightful springtime scene of beauties gathering herbs beneath a flowering plum tree. From left, we see a beauty holding her pipe, gracefully seated at a tea stand, the young waitress standing nearby and looking on. In the middle sheet her well-dressed companion holds a basket of just-picked herbs and heads towards a third companion, who is gesturing towards them at right. Behind her a young boy excitedly rushes to show the seated woman his cloth parcel full of herbs. The woman at right crouches before a row of herbs with pink flowers, her young companion looking down at the find. Behind them a festival is taking place, with banners visible behind the tree line. The sky is a celebratory pink. This extremely early impression features strong woodgrain in the sky and near perfect condition. Scarce design.
