From left, the actors Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Ogata Jiraiya and Arashi Rikan as Takasago Yuminosuke. From the play: Jiraiya goketsu monogatari. With deluxe printing details, including mica on the roof tiles and laquer-like printing on the black fur robe. Jiraiya holds his head as if from a blow. While Jiraiya holds a sword, his opponent seems to only hold a practice staff; he is a high ranking officer in the shogunate. Jiraiya is best known as a master of Frog Magic, but we see no hint of that in this scene.
