Title: Picnicking Beneath Cherry Blossoms
Date: 1844
From the series “Edo meisho mitsu no nagame” (Three Views of Famous Places in Edo). Three beauties enjoy a picnic beneath blooming cherry trees in Ueno park. The seated beauty in the center holds a sake cup in her right hand and gestures to her companion with her left to come and have a seat. The beauty on the left ties a note to a cherry blossom branch. Spread out are several bento boxes with food, a cup washer, a pipe and a lacquer picnic box. Far left we see a merchant passing by, and a woman and her child picking herbs. Behind them is a restaurant with a woman playing a shamisen in an upper room.
