A beauty leans over the counter of a pawnshop, pawning her tortoiseshell hairpin. In the mirror-shaped cartouche is a picture of a lottery. From the series “Picture of a Mirror Reflecting Her Thoughts” (Omoukoto kagami ni utsushi-e). Japanese scholars think very highly of this design, Yoshida Eizo considering it one of Kunisada’s best.
