The sumo wrestler Arauma Daigoro strikes a fierce pose in the sumo ring. Daigoro (1793-1849) belonged to the Kiriyama-beya stable and participated in his first ring match (dohyo-o) in 1814. He was about 197 cm tall, which means his height was 6 feet 5 inches! He was active until 1835. He fills the frame, and his expression is intimidating. The shading on his body helps to convey his bulk.
