Kunichika: Tattooed Actor with Exploding Gunshot (Sold)

The kabuki actor Otani Tomoemon V (also known as Otani Shido) grasps a tree trunk in one arm and holds his sword aloft in another. An explosive shot from a firearm has hit the tree, and its dramatic outburst fills the upper portion of the image. Lead-containing orange pigment has created a strong effect in its uneven oxidation. The actor is playing the role of Takan no Takezo, one of the 108 Heroes of the Suikoden. The right side of his body is covered in tattoos, which include a waterfall, bamboo and a tiger. In the background we see shadows of men entering battle.
