Fantastic closeup  of the kakbuki actor Nakamura Shikan IV holding a mie (exaggerated kabuki pose), locking eyes directly with the viewer. He is dressed in splendid samurai armor. Stunning printed, there is gauffrauge on the white areas of his collar as well as on his helmet. One of Kunichika’s finest designs. Kato Kiyomasa is known as one of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake as he fought in Hideyoshi’s army in 1583 at the Battle of Shizugatake. He was famous for his tiger hunting in Korea as well as for his castle-building.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. The bronze pigments used in the helmet ornament have smudged just a little bit.
