Koson 小原古邨 : Long-tailed Tit on a Ginkgo Branch in the Rain
Artist: Ohara Kōson (1877-1945)
Title: Long-tailed Tit on a Ginkgo Branch in the Rain Date: Ca. 1910
A long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) looks down from its perch on a gingko tree during a rainstorm. This bird is a type of Asian cuckoo shrike. The careful depiction of the dried ginko leaves being twisted in various directions by the wind shows the painterly attention to detail of the artist. The stormy palette consists mostly of grays, with only some soft brown on the bird and green on berries of the gingko tree. The rain falls in soft and irregular grey parallels. This seems to be a rather scarce design.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
