We see four grey starlings (sturnus cineraceus), three flying in the same direction, while the fourth seems to be speeding towards the ground. Light rain has been indicated with only five grey lines, also on the diagonal. Woodgrain is evident in the background block. Koson’s painterly hand is evident in this rainy-day glimpse, with the muted colors of the birds accentuated only by their yellow beaks and orange feet. From the first and only edition.
