Koson 古邨 : Lapwing and Reeds

A northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) stands with one leg raised, seeming to calmly eye the viewer with mild curiosity. A few reedy grasses are in the foreground, completing the painterly effect of the work. This striking shorebird is a winter visitor to Japan, and is recognized by its striking plumage and long, wispy crest. Koson has here also captured its strongly angled forehead as well.
