Artist: Tsuchiya Kōitsu (1870-1949)
Title: Yamanaka Lake 山中湖  Date: 1938 (Showa 13)

The peak of Mount Fuji glows orange-red from the sun’s rays as it towers over Lake Yamanaka. The publisher Baba Nobuhiko published 16 oban-sized prints by Koitsu between 1936 and 1941. The carving and printing style differs markedly from works published by Watanabe, the most prolific (and dominating) Tokyo publisher of the period. Koitsu apprenticed for years with the great Meiji artist Kobayashi Kiyochika. This work is rather scarce in this early edition.
