Koitsu: Kofukuji Temple in Nara (Sold)
Artist: Tsuchiya Kōitsu (1870-1949)
Title: Kofukuji Temple in Nara
Date: 1937 (this edition ca. late 1940s)
The five-storey pagoda, Goju-no-to, of Kofukuji temple in Nara is seen through fine falling rain and lovely surrounding willow trees. This pagoda dates from 1426 and has been designated a National Treasure. It must be springtime or early summer due to the verdant green, and indeed the work is dated the sixth month. The seal at left reads Doi Hangaten, which indicates that this work was printed shortly after WWII, probably around 1950.
Would make the perfect gift for the Japanophile in your circle.
