Hodaka Yoshida: Sangatsu-dô, Nara (Sold)
Artist: Hodaka Yoshida (1926-1995)
Title: Sangatsu-dô, Nara
Date: 1954
Hodaka created very few prints in the same vein of realism as his famous father and brother. This is one of those examples--a view of Sangatsu-do temple in the ancient capital city of Nara. It most likely comes from Hodaka’s honeymoon with Chizuko. We see two women in traditional kimono standing at the top of the steps leading to the temple. Hodaka Yoshida was the second son of Hiroshi Yoshida. He was a self-taught artist who began creating mainly abstract woodblock prints in 1950. Provenance: Ayomi Yoshida.
