All roads lead to Fuji. At least the premier shopping street with the finest stores do, as here. Hiroshige breaks his rule of resolute asymmetry in this view, and he does it successfully. The department store Echigoya shown here on both sides of the street is still going strong in Japan as the Mitsukoshi department store. The store on the right is now the Mitsui Bank. We see many kinds of people on the street, including deliverymen with large blue packs filled with dry goods strapped to their shoulders. This design remains a favorite in Japan. The coloration and printing of this work are very close to that of the First, Deluxe edition.
Condition: Excellent impression and color. Center fold, otherwise clean.
