Hiroshige very much conveys the discipline, precision and authority of this daimyo procession as it struts up Kinokuni Hill in Akasaka. The lead figure, leading in goose-step, also balances a standard in his palm, and will occasionally twirl and toss it in display. That the figures seem contrivedly rigid and exact is just what Hiroshige was aiming to communicate here. From the first, or deluxe edition.
