Very rare first state of this view, with a two-color subtitle cartouche at left and extensive bokashi (shading) throughout. Features the strong yet flowing diagonal symmetry that is prominent in many of Hiroshige’s best designs. We see small figures crossing the bridge of the Kazu River. In the distant left is a castle from 1570, a glowing yellow applied behind. The only museum that seems to have a first state of this design is the Briish Museum.
