Hasui 巴水: Nagahama Beach, Mito 三津 長浜 (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬 巴水 (1883-1957)
Title: Nagahama Beach, Mito 三津 長浜
Date: 1937
Mount Fuji rises in the distance as seen from the beach in Mito, which is a famous spot for its views of Mount Fuji as reflected against the water. This is a color variant, not a faded work. It was done almost entirely in shade of grey, with only the trees and shoreline hills a soft green. This work bears the Watanabe seal from the late 1940s, and Hasui’s personal seal is done in a barely visible soft grey/yellow. The Art Institute of Chicago (gift of Oliver Statler) example as well as the MFA example both bear this same Watanabe seal.
Condition: Very good impression, color and condition.
Dimensions: oban
